Coded Plate & Intermediate Pipe Welding

OVERVIEW

The aim of the Coded Plate & Intermediate Pipe Welding programme is to provide the learner with the skills and related knowledge in Carbon Steel Plate, Stainless Steel Welding at a variety of positions and to the standards required at industry level.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have successfully completed a Basic Welding Course to EN 287 standard. Ideally learners will have successfully completed the three basic evening courses on MMA, MIG and TIG welding to the EN Standard. Applicants to the course will be required to undergo an aptitude test which consists of a 3 run fillet using MMA. Previous welding experience is essential, see Learner Education. Learners should have a good command of the English language.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of this programme learners will complete the following modules:

  • Machine Tools Welding: Use the following machines and tools that are associated with welding in a safe and proper method: a) Angle Grinder. b) Bench Grinder. c) Belt Sanders. d) Band Saw.
  • Theory of Welding:State and interpret welding procedures and standards, explain welding responsibility with regard to third party safety; explain the causes of common welding defects and methods of prevention.
  • MMA Welding CS01: Weld Butt welds in the EN PA (Flat), PC (Horizontal), PF (Vertical Upwards Progression) positions.
  • MIG Welding CS10: Weld Butt Welds in positions 1G (Flat), 2G (Horizontal) and 3G (Vertical upwards progression).
  • TIG Welding SS01: Weld Butt welds in the EN PA (Flat), PC (Horizontal), PF (Vertical Upwards Progression) and HL045 (Pipe fixed @ 45 degrees Upwards) positions.
  • TIG/MMA Welding CS02: Weld Butt welds in the EN PA (Flat), PC (Horizontal), PF (Vertical Upwards Progression) and PE (overhead) positions.
